Years ago, when I experienced my Dark Night of the Soul - phenomenon of intense emotional challenge, one of the messages I received from my heart was: “You’re not alone”.
Then, I thought, what does that mean? I kept asking myself this question every day.
The answer came to me in a surprising way. It happened when I was walking outside and noticed a beautiful flower on the sidewalk. In that moment, I noticed I was picking up a positive energy from the flower; it was a refreshing, energizing, and hopeful energy.
Then, the next moment, I realized that maybe it wasn’t that I was picking up the energy, but the flower was sending the positive energy to me to encourage and empower me, to help me overcome my situation.
I became so grateful for receiving such nice feelings from the flower. I felt it cared for me.
This thought changed everything. I looked for other things that might be sending me energies.
I looked up and found a beautiful, blue sky with gentle sunshine. I felt the sky was delivering peaceful and empowering feelings to my heart, and I became so grateful for what the sky was giving me.
Similarly, I started to be grateful for every interaction I had with other people.
- I felt warmth in my heart when an employee at a coffee shop greeted me with a joyful voice and smiled at me.
- I felt loved when I received a phone call from my family and close friends.
- I felt more connected to others when I interacted with them on social networks.
- I looked for more and found many other things that were helping me—trees, insects, dogs, cats, a gentle breeze, and so on.
Going through a day feeling grateful for the little things in life, I thought, wow, many things are really helping me experience happiness. I didn’t ask for it and they don’t get anything in return from me, but they do it anyway!
I feel cared for and embraced. I am not alone. I am loved.
The message was right; I am never alone! In fact, I can’t be alone!
At that moment, there was a surge of gratitude rising inside of me, like an extremely bright light was radiating from my heart. The feeling of gratitude was so powerful that it pushed all the dark emotions away from my mind.
I said to myself, “I am not alone. I am one with everyone and everything. I am loved. I am grateful for this opportunity to live this life.”
This realization enabled me to experience abundance in life and know there was plenty of love surrounding me.
To create abundance in your external world, you first need to experience abundance in your internal world.
The first step is to experience gratitude for what you already have at the present moment.
One easy and effective way to do so is to make it a daily practice to search for gratitude in your life.
Every night, before you go to sleep, remember what happened throughout the day and count ten things you are grateful for.
This helps you create a habit of looking for good things in your life instead of trying to find something that’s wrong, and it helps you build stronger faith and trust in your life.
When you practice daily gratitude long enough, it becomes easier to find things to be grateful for throughout the day and stay in a good mood for a longer period of time.
Over time, your behavior will start to reflect your feelings of gratitude, and people will notice that.
As you keep living your life like this, something magical will start to happen; people will start to show gratitude back to you, and naturally, you will experience more good moods, good relationships, and good opportunities.
Yes, good moods and good relationships bring you good opportunities!
